NISSAN IS EV-SWAPPING AN R32 SKYLINE GT-R

Nissan announced Tuesday on Twitter its plans to convert an R32-generation Skyline GT-R to electric power.

The Japanese company released a short teaser video alongside the announcement that shows an R32 GT-R starting up and idling.

The idea to convert an R32 to electric power came from an engineer who, according to Nissan, admired the car.

"I want to build a more exciting car by adding the latest electrification technology that I am involved with to my favorite car," the engineer said, translated from Japanese.

There's no word at this time on how Nissan plans to approach the conversion. The company could rip the entire drivetrain out and replace it with electric motors to maintain the R32's all-wheel-drive system. Or it could leave the Attesa AWD system and simply replace the twin-turbo RB26 engine with an electric unit. Either way, we're excited to see what it comes up with.
